On Saturday, Safaricom experienced a network outage in Nairobi East and West which made their services inaccessible to its customers in that region.

The outage happened at 7.56 pm and it was apparently due to high temperatures at their Nairobi Gospel Mobile Switch Room (MSR). The issue was critical enough to affect services in the region. The services affected included mobile calls, mobile data, SMS and home fibre. Those affected included businesses that use the company’s mobile internet.

The outage affected areas that include Kireita, Ngara, CBD, Racecourse, Kawangware, Kangemi, Loresho, Dagoretti, Mountain View, Pumwani, Kamkunji, Ongata Rongai, Kiserian, Karen, Kibera, Wilson, Ngong Hill and Langata.

The last time Safaricom suffered such a network outage was in April 2017. That time, it was countrywide.
