Kenyan telecommunication company Safaricom is experiencing challenges on its network and this is affecting some customers.

The network issue is affecting voice calls, mobile data, and SMS. Calls on the network are dropping for some customers and SMS’s are also not going through for some.

Safaricom have acknowledged the issue in a Tweet and have said that they are working to restore the services.

The network issue apparently started 24 hours ago for some customers. In an interesting development, they released a statement just after Ory Okolloh raised the issue on Twitter. It is curious that they hadn’t communicated about the issue before.

Safaricom last suffered a similar outage in 2018. In that instance, it affected customers in Nairobi East and West which made their services inaccessible to its customers in that region. The services affected then included mobile calls, mobile data, SMS and home fibre. The company also suffered a network outage in April 2017. That time, it was countrywide.
