Following amendments to the Customs & Excise Duty Act gazetted on 1st February 2012, Safaricom will raise tariffs for M-Pesa transactions.
Transactions worth more than KShs. 101 will go up by 10%
Charges for transactions under KShs. 100 will remain unchanged.
The tariff increase will take effect from Friday the 8th of February.
This is likely to affect both Orange Money and Tangaza mobile money transfer services as well.
It is unclear whether this move by the government will affect Airtel Money and Yu, who do not charge for their mobile money transfer services.
