malaika awards The second edition of the MalaikaT ribute Awards was held at a colorful gala at the Windsor Hotel. The awards were started in 2012 by award winning singer Daddy Owen as a way to pay tribute to disabled Kenyans who are making a difference in society.The event saw who-is-who in showbiz attend the auspicious awards ceremony. The awards were be hosted by Malaika Trust (founded by Daddy Owen) to celebrate the achievements of remarkable people who have overcome their disabilities and their quest to make a difference in the world.
All the winners walked away with Sh100,000 cash prize among other gifts from different corporate bodies like Safaricom and DHL, that appreciate persons living with disability. The night was filled with inspiring stories from all the winners, who gave some insight into what it’s like to live with a disability. The most touching speeches came from Daisy Ogongo, a little girl who recited a shairi that and poet Sitawa Wafula who left guests with tears in their eyes after giving a heart warming speech despite fainting on stage. The ceremony which was hosted by Lillian Muli Kanene also saw the official unveiling of Malaika Trust website.
