Huawei Kenya has held its second ICT Competition roadshow at Kenyatta University. The registration exercise is part of Huawei’s efforts to recruit over 7,000 Kenyan students to take part in the 2024-2025 competition.
The roadshow at KU is part of a nationwide registration initiative that aims to attract the brightest students from Kenyan universities and technical colleges to participate in the 2024-2025 contest edition. Over the years, the global competition has provided a platform for showcasing technology prowess and innovative solutions.
At Kenyatta University, the Huawei team interacted with students, offering hands-on demonstrations and guiding them on how to register for the competition. The roadshow attracted hundreds of participants, eager to explore the opportunities that the ICT Competition offers. The event featured guest speakers from Huawei Kenya, Kenyatta University faculty, and past competition participants who shared their experiences on how the platform has boosted their careers.
Participants in the competition stand a chance to represent Kenya at the global finals, network with industry experts, and secure internships or job placements at Huawei or other leading ICT companies. Winners at the national level also receive prizes including certificates and gadgets.
Interested students can register for the Huawei ICT competition online via the Huawei ICT Academy portal. Applicants will then undergo a series of preparatory workshops and boot camps to enhance their knowledge before the competition kicks off.
The roadshow will continue in other universities across Kenya, including Zetech University, Multimedia University, Embu University, and Dedan Kimathi University, in the coming weeks.
Encouraging Kenyatta University students to participate, Partnerships and Corporate Affairs Manager and Head of Huawei ICT Academy in Kenya Michael Kamau noted, “We are committed to equipping the next generation of tech leaders with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the digital era. The ICT competition is a unique opportunity for students to gain exposure to the latest technologies while solving real-world challenges.”
The ICT Competition is one of Huawei’s flagship talent programs and is designed to cultivate ICT talent, foster innovation, and bridge the digital skills gap in Kenya. Over the years, it has seen rapid growth in participation, with students gaining practical experience in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and network security.
