Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced special ticket discounts of up to 30% to destinations across its network. The discount applies to tickets purchased by 24th September, 2021 for travel up to 31st March, 2022.
The airline stated that the special discounts are aimed at “exciting customers to travel and reconnect to new experiences with a delightful touch”. This is in line with this year’s upcoming Customer Service Week themed The Power of Service.
“This cements our purpose as the pride of Africa by offering them travel options and discounts that will help them enjoy their holidays even better. This will be further enhanced as government lockdowns and travel restrictions lift,” said Kenya Airways Chief Commercial and Customer Officer, Julius Thairu in a statement on the campaign.
Kenya Airways currently flies to 41 destinations worldwide, 34 of which are in Africa and with over four million passengers transported annually.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, KQ used to fly approximately 5 million passengers per year, 2019 being the record In year 2020, however, the airline suffered economic effects of the pandemic, dropping to about 1.8 million passengers.
“So a significant drop and those numbers are reflected in our revenue numbers and subsequently our losses. We also used to fly to 53 destinations across the world — that dropped to 41 but we hope to scale it back up a little bit more. Within Africa, we used to fly to over 40 destinations. That again has dropped to currently 36 destinations. Some we need to reactivate and see how that grows going forward,” said Allan Kilavuka, Group Managing Director and CEO at KQ.
