Orange Group has divested from Telkom Kenya with the sale of their 70% stake in the Kenyan telco to Helios Investment Partners.
Orange bought a majority stake in loss-making Telkom Kenya in 2007 with the hopes of turning around the business but they failed. The telco continued making losses and now only has 4 million mobile customers.
There is hope that with the exit of Orange, Telkom’s fortunes might take a turn for the good.
