AkiraChix is an association that inspires and develops women in Technology through networking, training and mentoring is taking applications for their 2015 training program.
Akirachix started in April 2010 when a group of young female techies got together at the iHub and decided to create a network that increased visibility for women in tech. In the years since it’s formation Akirachix has achieved a few things through their projects.
Akirachix was awarded one of six $35,000 grants for mobile social networking as part of the Creating Sustainable Businesses in the Knowledge Economy program. They were also recognized with the Unsung Heroes award by the US Embassy in Nairobi on International Women’s Day 2011 and delivered an open source project for Computer Aid International – Magme for visual accessibility
They have Mobile Garage a program funded by Infodev and to be implemented by Akirachix. The aim of the program is to create sustainable businesses for the knowledge economy through mobile applications for development, business incubation and technology entrepreneurship.
AKirachix runs a mentorship program and has a training program that teaches programming and web development skills to young women. They have had 2 successful training programs and are excited to get more ladies join the family.
Some of the main characteristics they’re looking for in these girls are:
 Successful completion of high school (Mean grade C- and above – KCSE Mock results also accepted)
 Knowledge and passion for technology
 Determination to succeed in life
 Demonstration of inability to sufficiently finance their education

