The Samsung Galaxy S3 Lite was launched into the Kenyan market in February. It is an entry level smartphone and, in a way, it came to replace the Galaxy Pocket which is now a bit more expensive after the reintroduction of VAT on mobile phones in Kenya.
This device was launched in other countries as Galaxy Fame Lite by Samsung as evidenced by this product listing on their Africa website and it is unclear why they decided to launch it here as S3 Lite.
Operating System
The S3 Lite comes with latest Android operating system Jelly Bean 4.1. It has the enhanced notification panel and a flexible widget that is mostly available on higher end Samsung devices.
Screen and Camera
The S3 Lite comes with a 3.5 inch (320 x 480) LCD touchscreen and a 3 megapixels back camera. The screen is not too bad for a smartphone at this price point but the camera is nothing to write home about.
Design, Dimensions and Weight
The S3 Lite has a standard Samsung design. Its dimensions are 113.2 x 61.6 x 11.9mm and it weighs just 118.2g rams which makes it much smaller than the Galaxy Pocket.
Battery Life
The S3 Lite comes with a 1300 mAh battery. The battery life on this device is exceptional and it can last for a full day on a single charge.
Processor, RAM and Storage
The S3 Lite has a 850 MHz processor, 4 GB internal storage and 512 MB RAM. All this combines to make it run well but at nominal use. In other words, this is not a device for a power user.
Price
The S3 Lite retails at Ksh. 10,999 exclusively from Safaricom Shops.
Extras
50 GB free Dropbox storage
1.5GB Safaricom Data (500MB limit per month)
Conclusion
The S3 Lite is a great entry level smartphone and at a great price point and I definitely recommend it.
