The inaugural 2026 HSBC SVNS 2 Nairobi leg has received a Ksh 3 million sponsorship from the Kenya Power Foundation. The tournament will be at the Nyayo National Stadium on February 14–15, 2026.
The Kenya Power Foundation’s contribution is specifically aimed at strengthening the logistical and operational framework required to host a world-class rugby event. The foundation was launched in late 2024 to streamline Kenya Power’s social investment pillars, including sports, education, and environment.
“Our support for the HSBC SVNS 2 Nairobi leg is a testament to our belief in the transformative power of sports,” a representative from the Foundation noted during the announcement. “By partnering with the Kenya Rugby Union, we are not just lighting up a stadium; we are helping to provide a stage where Kenyan talent can shine in front of a global audience.”
Nairobi will serve as the opening destination of the newly restructured three-tier global pathway, making Kenya only the second African nation, after South Africa, to host a leg of the prestigious World Rugby Sevens circuit.
The tournament will feature 12 teams in both the men’s and women’s categories. The home fans will be rooting for the national sides, Shujaa and the Lionesses, as they battle for promotion against powerhouse nations including the United States, Uruguay, Spain, and China.
KRU Chairperson Harriet Okach welcomed the Kenya Power Foundation to the growing stable of tournament partners, which includes heavyweights like Tusker (Ksh. 40M), SportPesa (Ksh. 40M), and Safaricom’s M-Pesa (Ksh. 10M).
