Sendy a local logistics firm has announced the introduction of Sendy Standard which will provide same day deliveries within Nairobi at a cost of Ksh. 250. The new product effectively lowers the cost of sending items by 80%.
Previously, Sendy has been charging a minimum of ksh. 250 as a base fee and an additional cost of ksh. 30 for an additional kilometer. With the introduction of Sendy Standard, delivery will take about 2-4 hours. It will also allow a driver to combine a maximum of three packages on a single route hence enabling the firm to reduce on its costs and ensure higher earning for the driver.
According to Sendy’s Founder and CEO, Meshack Alloys, the new Standard option is targeting businesses doing multiple deliveries a day and at the same time, are looking at bringing down their logistics cost
Meshack, had this to say, “Sendy has made logistics accessible over the last 3 years. We are doing more to make logistics affordable for small businesses. With the new Standard option, businesses will do deliveries to their customers at a fixed price of ksh.250 anywhere in Nairobi. ”
The price cuts come at a time when the courier business is facing increased competition from new entrants into the market. These include Glovo from Spain and Kobo360 from Nigeria which plans to set up operations in the country later this year.
Sendy was launched in 2014 and offers door to door delivery services via boda bodas, pickups, vans and trucks. In 2015, they were the first recipient of funding from the Safaricom Spark Fund.
