After a small break, Safaricom Jazz is back and this time around, 5 time Grammy Award winner Diane Reeves will be headlining the Jazz Lounge which will be held at Uhuru Gardens and at Hells Gate National Park.
Diane Reeves is a jazz singer with a career spanning over 4 decades. Over the years she has produced various jazz albums and even tried her hand in acting. In 2005, she featured in the George Clooney film, “Good Night and Good Luck” as a jazz singer. She has won Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Performance Female for her various albums which include; In the Moment: Live in Concert (2001), The Calling: Celebrating Sarah Vaughan (2002), A Little Moonlight (2004), Good Night and Good Luck (2006), and Beautiful Life (2015).
Reeves was born into a musical family in 1956 with her mother playing the trumpet and her father singing. At the age of 15 years, she started singing and playing the piano. However, her introduction to Jazz came through her uncle Charles Burrell a bassist with the San Francisco Symphony who used jazz albums.
Bob Collymore, CEO, Safaricom, had this to say about the upcoming jazz lounge, “We are honored to be yet again hosting one of the most influential jazz musicians in the world for the concerts in October. As we promised when we launched Safaricom Jazz in 2014, we will keep bringing world-class talent for Kenyan jazz fans.”
Diane Reeves will be joined on stage by other acts like Double Cut, a jazz band from Italy. Kato Change who will also performing is a self-taught guitarist from Kenya who is bound to have you dazzled with his skills on the guitar. Ad Hoc is the other band which will be performing at the jazz lounge, formed in 2017, it is a young and sensational Kenyan Jazz band that is creating quality and timeless music.
This year, Safaricom has partnered with the Enashipai Resort in Naivasha for the Jazz in the Park concert which will be held at the Hells Gate National Park. This partnership will enable fans to attend the concert at affordable rates.
Ticket prices for the concert at Uhuru Gardens on 18th of October 2018 are as follows;
• Kshs 2,000 regular and Kshs 500 for regular and student tickets respectively
Ticket prices for Jazz in the Park at Hells Gate National Park on 20th of October are as follows;
• Dinner and Concert only;
– Corporate Table: Ksh. 150,000
– Individual Ticket: Ksh. 10,000
• Dinner, Concert and Accomodation;
– Single: Ksh. 28,500
– Double: Ksh. 45,000
