Video on demand service, iFlix, has launched in Kenya. The service was launched in 2014 and targets emerging markets. Kenya is the second African country that the iFlix has been launched in after Nigeria. Plans are apparently underway to launch in Ghana, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

iFlix offers a selection of films and TV productions from the West, East and Africa. They have Kenyan content and also kids content. They are looking into commissioning content and a Kenyan soap is apparently in the pipeline.

They are offering their service at Ksh. 260 a month. They also have a free one month trial period.

Users can access iFlix on the following devices and platforms:

  • Apple devices: iPhone 5 and above, iOS9
  • Later Android devices: 4.4 and above
  • PCs: Windows 7 and 8 Mac: OSX and above Supported browsers: Chrome 40+, Safari 7+ and IE11.

Users can access the service on 2 devices simultaneously and can also download content for offline viewing.

iFlix will compete with Showmax and Netflix. The two platforms both launched in Kenya last year.
