Bhartesh Shah has been appointed as new Equity Group Chief Operations Officer (COO). He replaces Julius Kipng’etich who has moved to Uchumi Supermarkets to become the CEO.
Bhartesh was previously the Operations Director at Equity Group. He is a Kenyan citizen with with almost 20 years of banking experience. He has served as the Global Head of Performance Management at Standard Chartered, Singapore; Head of Retail Clients, East Africa at Standard Chartered Bank; CEO Standard Chartered Investment Services Limited, Head of Digital Banking, Africa at Standard Chartered and Vice President at Citi Group.

The COO position at Equity was created in 2012 with Julius being the first person to occupy the position. His move to Uchumi has been rumoured to be because he realized that he had hit a glass ceiling in the organization since the CEO James Mwangi has not intention of stepping down anytime soon,
