Santuri Safari – the collaborative platform for East African DJs, producers and musicians – are set to run a 6 day workshop around the Sondeka Festival.

The Santuri Safari is an initiative to create fresh, dynamic new music with a strong East African identity. Bringing together the traditional and the futuristic, the Santuri Safari facilitates collaborations between musicians, DJs and electronic music producers, with the purpose of supporting and nurturing a spirit of artistic adventurousness.

Bridging the gap between traditional artists, instruments, rhythms and cultures and the cutting edge of the global underground music scene, Santuri has so far built pop up studios in Zanzibar, Jinja, Kampala, Rift Valley and now Nairobi

The workshops will see Tony Nwachukwu of CDR London and Sam Jones of SoundThread UK work with young producers, DJ and sound engineers from all over the region, sharing insights and developing skills around sound recording, music production and other related topics.

The sessions will invite some of Kenya’s leading performers to join and record new material, which will be mixed and remixed in multiple ways for presentation at the Sondeka Festival between 18th and 20th October. Guests at the workshop include Makadem, Sarabi, DJ Zhao (Berlin), Dunga (Tz), Ugandan DJs Ivo, Rachael and Dark Meme, as well local talent such as Wasengo, Mr Jake and Dread Steppa. Support will be provided by Ableton, Native Instruments and Nairobi institutions Creatives Garage, The Nest and Ketebul Music.
