A motion to significantly increase the joining fees at the Karen Country Club was proposed and subsequently passed by members at the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM). This decision means the club will adopt the new, higher entrance fees, making membership considerably more expensive for new applicants.
The approved fee structure, which includes increases of over a million shillings for several categories, is highlighted in the comparison of Existing and Proposed Fees:
| Category | Existing Fee (Ksh) | New Fee (Ksh.) | Increase |
| Couple | 1,150,000 | 2,500,000 | 1,350,000 |
| Single | 650,000 | 1,600,000 | 950,000 |
| Expatriate Single | 500,000 | 1,600,000 | 900,000 |
| Expatriate Couple | 850,000 | 2,500,000 | 1,650,000 |
The largest fee jump is seen in the Expatriate Couple category, with the fee rising by Ksh. 1,650,000.
The motion did not affect all categories, as the fees for Joining Spouse, Ksh. 600,000, and Juniors, Ksh. 105,000 will remain at their existing rates.
When you compare the Karen membership fees with other clubsin the countyr, only Muthaiga Golf Club has more expensive membership fees as shows in the table below:

Founded in 1937, the Karen Country Club is one of Kenya’s oldest golf clubs, established on land that was part of Danish writer Karen Blixen’s former coffee estate. The 18-hole course features many of the coffee plantation’s original shade trees and is known for its beautiful setting with views of the Ngong Hills and abundant wildlife. The club is a family-oriented private institution with a variety of amenities beyond golf, including tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a gym.
