Former Kenya Seven captain Humphrey Kayange and three-time World Half-Marathon champion Tegla Lorupe have been appointed to the Kenya Academy of Sports Council Board by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohammed.
The two will serve on the board for a period of three years, effective immediately. This is the second time the duo has been appointed to the board after they were appointed by former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.
The Kenya Academy of Sports is a state corporation established under the Sports Act that is mandated to develop sports talents through the formation and management of academies, training and research for global competitiveness and socio-economic growth in Kenya.
The Council is also tasked with establishing and managing sports training academies and promoting research and development of talent in sports.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 35 (1) of the Sports Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage appoints Humphrey Kayange and Tegla Lorupe to be members of the Board of the Kenya Academy of Sports Council, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 21st September, 2021,” read an excerpt from a notice from the Ministry of Sports.
The appointment comes only a month after Kayange was appointed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athlete’s Commission for a four-year team.
Kayange who also sits in the Olympics Kenya Executive Committee as an Athlete’s representative joined Olympics Kenya Committee President Paul Tergat in the IOC Executive Board.
