Tusker has today handed over cheques to all the football and rugby clubs that participated in the Tusker Jenga Game promotion that kicked off in October.
Among the clubs in attendance at the handover ceremony were Tusker FC, Gor Mahia FC, AFC Leopards, Thika United and Sofapaka FC.
The three month in- bar promotion gave patrons opportunity to raise money for their favourite clubs. “In the last few years, Tusker played a major role in the development of football and rugby which have provided memorable moments for Kenyans,” said Tusker Marketing Manager Arianne Okong’o, “As the Tusker Premier League season kicks off next month and the rugby calendar remains active, the brand will continue to play its role to ensure that all talent gets a platform to shine in their respective fields.”
For the first phase of the campaign, the brand enlisted the star power of Harambee Stars legends Joe Kadenge, George Sunguti, Josephat Mulira and Tobias Ochola for the campaign that sought to highlight the key milestones throughout the history of both sports.
The campaign was designed to appeal to grassroots support which forms the bedrock of the fan club movement across the country.
Tusker customers had the chance to contribute to their favourite club’s kitty. For each bottle of Tusker bought, Kshs. 2 went towards the fan’s club of choice after they sent the team’s code to 21450 at a cost of Kshs. 1 per SMS. A score board was released each week to show the club with the highest amount of money contributed.
Tusker FC led the scoreboard for much of the campaign and eventually came in at first place with the most contribution at Kshs. 704,950.
Gor Mahia FC garnered a total of Ksh. 584,912 to come in second in the promotion. “We will use the money to buy medical items, training bibs and quality playing balls as was specified in our wish list before the campaign began,” said Ambrose Rachier, the Gor Mahia FC Chairman.
His counterpart Charles Obiny of Tusker FC thanked the club’s fans for their support during the campaign by saying, “we now have funds to buy 30 black and yellow team warm tracksuits and boots and we will also utilize the left over funds for the benefit of the team.”
16 football clubs and 9 rugby clubs participated in the promotion that also saw 9 lucky consumers walk away with Kshs. 200,000 each for participation.
“The competition was transparent and was continuously scrutinized by a reputable global audit firm. We will follow up the teams to ensure they spend money on the items they listed in the wish lists they shared before the campaign kicked off in October,” said Ms. Okong’o.
