Over a week ago, Anakle, a Nigerian digital agency released a fun app which allows ladies and their friends/enemies calculate their bride price. Within two days, the bride price app had gone viral, with visits from over 180 countries around the world, leading to it being featured on BBC, CNBC, CNN and major international news outlets.
The app has received over two million hits, leading to requests from Kenyans for their version of the Bride Price app. The requests were heard and now Kenyans also get to enjoy the app which calculates a bride price based on quiz questions covering various beauty, culinary and economic subjects.
The app, hosted at brideprice.co.ke, is quite easy to use as you only select the options that best suit you. Each option has a price attached to it.
You start off with your height selection, followed by your weight. There is an option for every size including plus size people. If you happen to be plus size, there is a 40% discount.
The leg shape category had me in stitches based on the descriptions available. The app has been fitted to suit the Kenyan life. The options available are based on people and things we can relate to. In this case, you have leg shape options like Huddah Monroe’s (sexy bow legs) or you could have the manly Wanyama legs.
Vanity kicks in next as you have to select your facial qualities. This would be tricky as no lady is going to intentionally admit they have a “complete no try†face – I assume this means you aren’t good looking. Either way you get to be vain and lie on the site stating you are have the perfect face.
Once you are through with this, your nationality comes next. There are different price tags for each option though it’s hard to tell why each is priced that way. Your education level comes next. The cheapest option is if you only reached form four and did K.C.P.E. The site values you at Kshs. 250. The options increase with the level of education with anyone who did a PHD being valued at Kshs. 100,000.
Jokes about wife material girls being able to make chapatis has also been factored into the site. Your cooking skills also affect your value. If you want a high value, it’s time you hit the kitchen and learnt to make chapatis.
What follows next is a series of options for your employment, body art and the accent you have.
There is also the bonus category where your behaviour comes into play. You get to choose between being a ratchet, good girl, church girl or the good girl in the morning and crazy at night. Again, this option just opens up the opportunity for you to choose the option that ranks you high. Who wants to openly admit they are ratchet, or slightly crazy under the cover of darkness?
Once you have selected all these, the “elders consult†on your value and you get your ranking and can share it on social media.
The site is a great laugh and you can keep playing around with it till you get the desired value (to feed your vanity). I’m not entirely sure if it will pick up and actually be used in real marriage negotiations, but it would be nice to have it so people can stop requesting for ridiculous bride price amounts. So go ahead and check out brideprice.co.ke find out how much your bride price is.
