Safaricom has today launched a new data bundle called ‘Chattitude’. The Chattitude data bundle is targeting the youth market who are known for their love of the internet, and by extension social media apps, as a means of communication.
The data bundle will cost users Kshs. 10 a day which will translate to Kshs. 300 a month. The data bundle will give users 20MB everyday and will allow them to specifically access Facebook, Twitter & WhatsApp. Access to other websites will be charged separately so if you a click on Twitter or Facebook you will be charged. Users will also be charged if they access websites out of bundle.
Chattitude is available for both individual Safaricom PostPay & PrePay subscribers. To activate the service, dial *544# and follow the prompts.
We understand the rationale behind this product but we are not sure this is the right way to spur internet use. Wouldn’t it be better to make bundles more affordable across the board?
