Stanbic Bank has for the third year in a row been recognized as Kenya’s Best Investment Bank in the EuroMoney Awards for Excellence 2021. This recognition honors Stanbic Bank for its expertise, skills and experience in structuring and implementing complex transactions in the region. This includes debt arranging, loan syndications, capital markets issuances and advisory services.

Commenting on the award, Stanbic Bank CEO Mr. Charles Mudiwa noted, “We are grateful for the recognition, we commend our clients, employees and partners for trusting our vision and walking the journey with us. Stanbic Bank has been a leader in restoring growth and mapping a way forward. In 2020, in the wake of the pandemic, Stanbic Bank played a key role in economic recovery through forming partnerships to mobilize resources to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Notable key strategic deals and transactions the bank has executed during the EuroMoney review include Kenya’s first ever Green Bond by Acorn Holdings. This was a Ksh. 5.7 billion medium-term note program listed on both the Nairobi Securities Exchange and the London Stock Exchange. The Acorn transaction was awarded the New Market Green Pioneer in the Climate Bonds Initiative 5th Green Bond Pioneer Awards.

Additionally, Jubilee Holdings appointed Stanbic Bank to advise on the sale of controlling stakes in five insurance subsidiaries operating in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mauritius and Burundi. Stanbic helped Jubilee design and implement the transaction by developing the transaction strategy, negotiating the transaction agreements and help obtain shareholder approvals for the transactions.

Jonathan Muga, Head of Investment Banking Kenya commented, “Stanbic Bank leverages our expertise and insights on the Kenyan market supported by cross-border presence to create solutions for our clients that accelerate growth for their businesses. We have demonstrated expertise in sectors relevant to real growth and development, supporting key clients in the country and beyond.”
