The M-Pesa Foundation Academy is now taking applications for its 2018 class. The institution is a state-of-the-art co-educational and residential 8-4-4 secondary school facility that has been operational since February 2016. It seeks to empower, train and provide an environment for learners to be more than just students but to be doers, thinkers and capable leaders in the society.
The Academy is an inclusive learning center which serves talented but economically disadvantaged students who possess and demonstrate great leadership potential. The academy also places a great amount of emphasis not just in academics but also in the arts, technology, music, sports, community service, all which are fundamental in the overall holistic development of the learners.
Applications are available across all 47 counties and they are seeking applicants in their final year of primary school. Thereafter, a vetting process will be undertaken where each county will have 2 slots to go to the academy at no cost.

- Keeps the students’ needs at the core of their educational system. In a country where most teachers hurry to finish the school syllabus on time unfortunately leaving some students behind, the M-Pesa academy focuses more on the students’ strengths and interests.
- Hopes to produce the leaders who will provide an envisioned future for this country. With core values such as leadership potential, responsible citizen traits, critical thinking and problem-solving traits at hand. The academy puts emphasis on learning that leans heavily on entrepreneurial leadership and overall development of their students.
- Leans on adopting and developing instructive approaches that will also be shared with other secondary institutions in the country.
In addition, they have a rigorous study skills program that helps students to be well prepared to sit for the KCSE examinations at the end of their 4 years in high school.
The academy is located along Thika-Mang’u road, 6 kilometres off the Thika Superhighway. Applications are available at all county and Sub-county Education offices, all Safaricom Retail centers, at selected Local Churches and Mosques and are also available online.
Applications opened in April 2017 and the deadline to submit applications will be the 31st of July 2017. So if you know any bright but economically disadvantaged candidate encourage them to apply, you never know.
