Infinix recently unveiled their latest offering in the Note series, the Note 3 (X601). This is the successor of the Note 2 (X600) launched last year. I had a chance to review the phone and here are my thoughts on it.
Out of the box
- Phone (Note 3)
- Charger (three pin + USB cable)
- User Guide
- Sim ejection pin
- Ear phones
- Screen protection film
Appearance
The Note 3 has smooth edges and a premium slim design which make it easy to handle despite its size. The phones comes in two colours gold and silver.
It has a 6 inch screen just like its predecessor, however the display comes twice as many pixels at 1080 x 1920 (376 pixels per inch) for better viewing. The 6 inch screen makes the phone ideal for watching movies/videos and browsing.
Camera
The Note 3 front camera has been upgraded from the 2 Megapixels found on the Note 2 to 5 Megapixels. This coupled with a soft LED light ensures that you can be able to take selfies even in low light conditions.
It has a 13 MP back camera with a dual LED flash and autofocus. This camera takes some pretty amazing and clear photos.
Fingerprint Sensor
This is another improvement from the Note 2. The phone has a fingerprint sensor at the back just below the camera. I like this addition to the Note series as it makes the act of unlocking the phone much faster. Also one can also be able to authorize purchases and app access, snap photos as well as receive calls.
Performance
The phone comes with a 2 GB RAM, a MT6753 Octa-core 1.3GHz processor and ARM MALI T720 MP3 450 MHz Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). A GPU is a co-processor that takes on graphical calculations and transformation so that the main CPU does not have to be burdened by them. As such the device is faster in handling tasks and apps. The phone runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow powered on the XOS operating system which is easy to use.
Battery
The phones come with a huge 4500 mAh Li-Ion Polymer battery which is non removable. With heavy usage it can last you a whole day but with moderate usage it can go for even two days. The battery supports fast charging and it can get completely charged in 99 minutes. It also has a Ultra Power Saving mode which when turned on switches off all battery draining functions. With this feature, 10% charge can last you for 5 hours.
Storage
The phone comes with 16 GB Internal storage which can be expanded with the help of a SD card. With this kind of memory, you can take all the pictures you want without any worries.
SIM
The phone can hold two SIM cards in the SIM card slot. The SIM cards have to be micro.
Network and connectivity
The phone is sadly 3G but the company has promised to launch the 4G version later in the year. Calls on the phone are pretty clear. Internet is good on both mobile and Wi-Fi.
Price and availability
This phone, for all its features is retailing at only Kshs. 14,999 and is available exclusively at Jumia.
