Microsoft will launch a new version of their popular operating system Windows on July 29th. The new operating system, dubbed Windows 10, will be available as a free upgrade for those with licensed Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 operating systems on their devices. It will cost $199 for the pro version for new users & $199 for the Home version. Users wishing to upgrade to the Pro version will have to pay $99.
Windows 10 will be launched worldwide on July 29th at special events in 13 cities which include Nairobi. The other cities are Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, New Delhi, Dubai, Berlin, Johannesburg, Madrid, London, São Paulo, and New York City. At the events, Microsoft will offer Windows 10 experiential demos and opportunities to meet the Windows team. The Nairobi event will be at the Nairobi Arboretum and will be invite only.
As a way of marketing Windows 10, Microsoft is lauching a campaign called Upgrade Your World. Other than the ads they plan to partner with 10 global and 100 local NGOs to support their initiatives as part of the upgrade your world campaign. The global NGOs that are part of this campaign are: CARE, Code.org, Keep a Child Alive, Malala Fund, Pencils of Promise, Save the Children, Special Olympics, The Global Poverty Project, and The Nature Conservancy. Microsoft will on July 29th ask for the public to help choose the 10th Global NGO to be a part of the campaign.
The 100 local NGOs will be chosen from 10 countries which include Kenya and will each receive a cash investment. The other countries are Australia, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States.
