One of the main stays at every start of the year are resolutions. These are declarations made to oneself in the hope of achieving a certain goal or milestone in the year. Chief among this, for alcohol drinkers mainly, is quiting the bottle or cutting down on consumption. This is partly driven by memories of overdrinking during the Christmas festivities which in turn render one’s pockets a bit shallow. But the question still remains, do people really cut on drinking in January?

My housemate was part of the “quit drinking in January” crowd. So being a good friend, I stocked up on some whisky to test his resolve. Major Fail!! But that’s besides the point. I know of guys who, in their imagined ingenuity, decided to drink themselves silly on the 31st so they could stop drinking before midnight. These are the same people who woke up on the 1st to do what we like to call “toa lock” ( directly translating to cure a hangover) with a bit of alcohol to steady the ship. I digress.

Anyway, I wish there was a survey online that would tell us if guys really cut on drinking after new years. Oh shoot, we might as well do our own.

Just incase you go through with your resolution to cut on drinking, what are some of the benefits? You get to save some money to start with, which is often a good thing. Try and put that money into something, like buying a really old whisky bottle which you can use to celebrate something special in the course of the year. Another benefit is that you give your liver a break after what must have been a really busy December. Even God took a break on the seventh day. 😉
