Abbas Gullet + Bob Collymore - Westgate

As many of you know, terrorists stormed the Westgate mall in Westlands killing and wounding many people. In response to this unfortunate situation, Safaricom launched a nationwide mobile money transfer campaign through an M-PESA paybill number and a Safaricom line (via Western Uinion) for those in diaspora. The amount raised was as follows:

1. Kshs. 71,921,192 via M-PESA 848484
2. Kshs. 410,157 from the diaspora
3. Additionally Safaricom and MPESA Foundations contributed Kshs. 30 Million.

The funds raised by Safaricom will be channeled through Kenya Red Cross and will be spent as follows:

Medical Emergency Grant [1] -250 cases @Kshs 200,000 cap per patient. This is medical bill for survivors and patients who passed on while on treatment.Hospitals will be prevailed upon to waiver morgue fees but where this is not possible then a few cases will be considered

150 to 200 counsellors will be engaged and paid allowances like transport, water, etc

Ambulance Services Allocation: Eplus and Other Ambulance Service providers such as St. Johns, AMREF, AAR, West Ambulance. The cost will cater for stock replenishment and patient transportation

Blood Donor Services -Replenishment of consumables; blood bags, vacutainers, capillary tubes, disinfectant, screening kits-Volunteer costs to 300 volunteers across the country
