The first time I heard the audio version of this song, I felt ambushed, what with the high-pitched ad lib a la James Brown at the beginning. The video was released a few days ago and already features more than 32 thousand views which is a big deal in Kenya.
The boy band that has kept Kenyans entertained for the last 5 years churning hit after hit have strayed away from the usual and stumbled upon a true jewel. The baseline to Still the One is to die for and hats off to Andrew Wanjohi for such brilliance.
Directed by the fresh Enos Olik who has worked with Dela, an awesome artist and collaborator of Sautisol, he has truly captured the essence of the song. It features the growth of love from the budding flower to a fully-blooming and the insistence of this guy on the fact that he has not changed at all. The suits are sharp as always, the girls are good looking. The saturation effect works perfectly for that ol’skul feel.
Still the one, both song and video appeal to a wide audience and time will tell whether it will out-do Lazizi. A friend of mine believes that Still the One is the same spark of genius that wrote Lazizi.
Bien-aime switches from current slang (nakonda sana) to old school (odijo), and even manages to pull off a Jessie J run.
This one will get the ladies swaying in the house, and screaming at concerts. What do you think? Is Sauti Sol still the one?
