Naideation13

Naideation13 took place at Ihub on Thursday 30th May. This was a one-day ideation seminar and prototyping hack-day looking to explore powerful new ideation techniques for customer-focused user experience, and to find the most exciting new ideas that can be built to prototype then production. The event was held in association with Nike Foundation and Ihub and sponsored by Safaricom and Squad Digital. The session was led by Andrew Missingham, a UK-based entrepreneur and management consultant.

The event started off at 8.30am with an insight into how to go about creating strategies. Andrew introduced the concept of co-created strategies which was going to be the means by which participants were to work on their ideas. He also spoke a bit about himself before participants were asked to go into groups.

The first task was getting to understand the market and target audience for the product created. One of the main objectives of the event was to create ideas of products that would target the adolescent girl. This was because adolescent girls are one of the major users of phones and also the gateway to data use yet they are most under privileged.

The second task was creating a business model that would benefit both partners and the customers and provided great value propositions. In the groups, participants were able to come up with ideas and business models using the business model canvas strategy that was introduced to them.

The participants were able to come up with various amazing ideas and got to present their business models. The participants also got free airtime courtesy of Safaricom and the best participants were able to win Nokia Asha phones.

Naideation13 is not only happening in Nairobi but was part of an ideation and hack-day series also taking place in Accra, and Bangalore. Squad Digital, Africa’s top digital agency, offered a three month placement to the most promising ideator.
