Airtel Kenya & Absa Bank partner to simplify digital payments for SMEs

Airtel Money Kenya has announced a strategic partnership with Absa Bank Kenya. The collaboration aims to bridge the gap between mobile money platforms and traditional banking, allowing businesses to manage their cash flows with greater efficiency.

For many Kenyan entrepreneurs, a common operational bottleneck involves the separation of funds: revenue often arrives via mobile money, while major business expenses and supplier payments are typically handled through bank accounts.

The new integration addresses this friction by enabling direct, real-time transfers from Airtel Money wallets into Absa Bank accounts. Additionally, businesses can now make payments directly to Absa merchant paybill accounts without leaving the Airtel Money interface.

Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, Managing Director at Airtel Money Kenya, emphasized the importance of collaboration in reaching underserved markets.

Echoing these sentiments, Renato D’Souza, Business Banking Director at Absa Bank Kenya, highlighted the bank’s role as a growth partner for the SME sector.
