Kenya is set to make cinematic history with the launch of the first-ever Kenyan film festival in Europe: Kenya Cinema Week 2025.
The landmark event will take place on Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the iconic RichMix Cinema in London (35-47 Bethnal Green Road, E1 6LA). The festival is designed to showcase the vibrant talent, compelling storytelling, and diverse creativity of the Kenyan film industry on an international platform.
A powerful lineup of Kenyan films
Kenya Cinema Week 2025 will feature a curated selection of films, ranging from heartfelt dramas to popular blockbusters, offering European audiences a unique glimpse into contemporary Kenyan culture and cinema.
The confirmed film lineup includes:
- ‘Makosa Ni Yangu’ (Feature Film by Philit Productions, written by renowned Kenyan storyteller Abel Mutua).
- ‘Once Upon A Maybel’ (Feature Film directed by Cliff Webster).
- ‘Checkmate’ (Feature Film directed by Buda Boss).
- ‘Act of Love’ (Opening Short Film by Blackwell Films).
The festival schedule is structured to maximize engagement, with an Opening Short and Feature Screening on Day 1, followed by two more compelling features, including the Closing Film, on Day 2.
This milestone event not only celebrates Kenyan cinema but also aims to build bridges between African filmmakers and the global industry. Key partners supporting the initiative include the Kenya Film & Classification Board (KFCB), the Nairobi City County Government, and various corporate and community sponsors.
