Popular Kenyan music group Sauti Sol and US-based Canadian rapper Drake are the most streamed artists on Spotify in Kenya. This is according to a statement released by the streaming service.
Spotify launched in Kenya last month giving users access to more than 70 million songs, 2.2 million podcast titles, and over four billion playlists. Spotify launched with a tailored music experience for Africa with more than 100 curated playlists across some of the most popular genres in the continent.
“The first 30 days have seen Kenyan listeners navigating the vast world of music discovery with the list of the top-streamed artists consisting mainly of international hitmakers,” Spotify said in a statement on Wednesday.
Drake’s hits were the most streamed followed by the Suzanna hitmakers songs. Formed in 2005, Sauti Sol is an afro-pop band that has treated Kenyans to some of now popular hits in the airwaves.
Also top in the most listened to artists are American rapper Pop Smoke, Canadian singer Justin Bieber, and Juice WRLD. Juice WRLD’s hit Lucid Dreams has been streamed on the platform over one billion times.
Bien and Nviiri The Storyteller’s Niko Sawa close off that list of the top five streamed songs, with residents of Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, and Eldoret accounting for the most Spotify streams in Kenya.
The Joe Rogan Experience is the most popular podcast in the country, with TED Talks Daily, Renegades: Born in the USA, RonRod Pod and DjP Mixes ranking up high in the top podcasts listened on Spotify in Kenya.
Cardi B’s Up is the most streamed track on Spotify in Kenya in the first 30 days, followed by Drake with What’s Next and 6LACK and Lil Tjay’s Calling My Phone.
