The Kenyan Embassy in Washington DC has announced that Kenyans in the US and Mexico can now be able to apply for the new Kenyan passport at their premises. The embassy is located at 2249 R Street NW, Washington DC 20008.

The new Kenyan passport was introduced by the Immigration department in August 2017. It features a chip that contains a person’s bio data. The old Kenyan passport will cease operation at the end of August 2019. When it was introduced, it could only be applied for in Kenya. This was really stressful for Kenyans in Diaspora because they have had to travel to Kenya to get the new passport.

The Government announced that Kenyans in Diaspora will be able to apply for the new Kenyan passport in the following Kenyan embassies overseas;

  1. Washington DC, USA
  2. London, UK
  3. Berlin, Germany
  4. Paris, France
  5. Dubai, UAE
  6. Pretoria, South Africa

To apply for the new Kenyan passport in Washington DC, Kenyans will be need the following documents. They will also need to go to the embassy for biometrics capture.

Requirements for new applications (Never held a Kenyan passport before)

Requirements for replacement of passport( Current holders of passports being phased out)

  • A duly filled application form
  • Copy of Birth Certificate
  • Copy Certificate of Registration if Kenyan by Registration
  • Original Kenyan ID and a copy for Adults
  • 3 (Three) passport size photos
  • Copy of the recommender’s Kenyan ID
  • Duly filled Consent form for Minors
  • Old passport and a copy
  • 2 (two) payment invoices for the prescribed fee

The passport cost is as follows both for new and replacements;

  • A series (32 pages) – Ksh. 4,550
  • B series (48 pages) – Ksh. 6,050
  • C series (64 pages) – Ksh. 7,550
  • Diplomatic – Ksh. 7,550
