Residents of Makongeni in Nairobi’s Makadara Constituency have decried the demolition of Martin Luther Primary School’s workshop and classroom. The residents led by area MP George Aladwa were involved in a push and pull with alleged land grabbers who had already done the demolitions using bulldozers.
The demolition of the school allegedly happened in the wee hours of Wednesday night during curfew time under heavy guard of the police.
MP Aladwa claimed that the land grabber behind the demolition hides under the name Thabiti.
“The truth is Martin Luther is a Public Primary School in Makadara. And this is around the fourth time these land grabbers are attempting to grab this piece of land. How were these demolishers were allowed to conduct the demolitions at night despite the ongoing curfew?” lamented Aladwa.
Parents of pupils at the school are now expressing fear for the safety of their children following the invasion by the land grabbers.
“They have demolished our children’s workshop. Do they even know how long it will take for us to build a new workshop? Our children are set to go back to school next week, this incident will instill fear in them and even affect their learning,” said a parent at the school.
Martin Luther Primary is a public school that was built in the early 90s that sits on a five acre piece of land. The school serves the low income earning residents of Maringo in Makadara Constituency.
So far there has been no word from the County Government of Nairobi regarding the matter.
