President Uhuru Kenyatta has promoted a number of postings, promotions and appointments in the Ministry of Defense. In statement released by State House, the President has promoted, among others, Major General Francis O. Ogolla to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF).
Lt. Gen. Francis O. Ogolla replaces Lt. Gen. Franklin L. Mghalu whose term of service has come to an end after 40 years of service. He had previously served as the VCDF and as the Commander Kenya Navy.
Until his appointment as VCDF Lt Gen Francis Ogolla was the Commander Kenya Air Force.
The President has also promoted and appointed Brigadier John M. Omenda to the rank of Major General and appointed him Commander Kenya Air Force.
On the advice of the Defence Council Chaired by Amb Dr. Monica K. Juma, Cabinet Secretary for Defence, the President has made various promotions, postings and appointments of KDF officers as follows.
Vice Chief of the Defence Forces
- Major General Francis O Ogolla – Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.
Kenya Army
- Major General Albert K Kendagor – Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed Force Commander AMISOM (Designate).
- Major General Jonah M Mwangi – Promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed Vice Chancellor National Defence University Kenya (NDUK)
- Major General William K Shume – Appointed Deputy Commander Kenya Army.
Kenya Air Force
- Major General Mohamed A Badi – Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and remains Director General Nairobi Metropolitan Service
- Brigadier John M Omenda – Promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Commander Kenya Air Force.
