KCB yesterday booked a ticket to the main cup finals of the 2019 BLAZE Impala Floodlit rugby tournament after beating Homeboyz 38 – 14 in the semi-finals played at the Impala Grounds.

Oscar Sorano scored the opening try in the 5th minute while a second try from Rocky Aguko and a brilliant conversion from Asumba gave KCB an early lead which they held on to for the rest of the game to secure their ticket to face Menengai Oilers in the finals. In the earlier semi final match, Menengai Oilers booked their first ever ticket to the main cup finals by beating Kenya Harlequin 30-21.

The Plate Finals will see hosts Impala Saracens, who beat Nakuru Top Fry 23-21, take on Nondies, who won 29 -20 against Kenyatta University’s BlakBlad. In the varsity category UoN Mean machine overcame CUEA 17 – 12 to set up a final encounter with Strathmore University Leos, who beat USIU 40 – 27 with a brilliant 80th minute try from Isah Wafula.

The finals of the 2019 BLAZE Impala Floodlit rugby will be played on 12th October at the Impala Grounds.

BLAZE by Safaricom are sponsoring the annual fifteen-aside Impala Floodlit Rugby Tournament to the tune of Ksh. 3 million. The Safaricom sub-brand gave the tournament last year Ksh. 1.8 million in sponsorship. The tournament is taking place over three consecutive weekends, on 28th September, 5th October and 12th October, at Impala Grounds. The tournament is marking 38 years in 2019 while BLAZE by Safaricom will be celebrating the fourth year in a row it has sponsored the competition. In 2018, KCB won the 2018 edition beating hosts Impala Saracens 20-18.
