Airtel Kenya has announced the roll out of more over 800 3G and 4G sites across the country in a bid to enhance its network coverage. According to the company, the new sites will increase network capacity, improve quality of service and enhance mobile data speeds.

The network expansion will target over 40 towns in Kenya which include Kisumu, Nyeri, Meru, Nakuru, Bungoma, Lamu and Garissa among others.

Airtel Kenya CEO Prasanta Das Sarma had this to say about the network expansion “Airtel is committed to constantly innovate and improve on the quality of its products and services as an active competitor in the Kenyan market. As such, we are delighted to be increasing our 4G sites across the country. The expansion of our network coverage will ensure that majority of the urban population are well covered.” said Mr. Sarma.

Airtel Kenya is owned by Bharti Airtel Limited, a multinational telecommunications company with operations in 18 countries across Asia and Africa. It’s product offerings include 2G, 3G and 4G wireless services, mobile money, fixed line services, high speed home broadband, DTH, enterprise services including national & international long distance services to carriers.

Airtel Kenya and Telkom Kenya in February 2019 announced plans to merge their operations in Kenya.
The companies plan to merge their Mobile, Enterprise and Carrier Services businesses in Kenya to operate under a joint venture company called Airtel-Telkom. Telkom Kenya Limited’s real estate portfolio and specific government services will not be part of the new entity. The merged company will be chaired by Telkom Kenya Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mugo Kibati while Airtel Kenya Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Prasanta Sarma, will be appointed as the Chief Executive Officer.
