Nairobi magistrate Mrs. M. Murage has issued a temporary injunction prohibiting Space Lounge from playing any sort of music on its premises until further notice.

Space Lounge is a club and restaurant that is located on Ngong Road opposite Prestige Plaza. It was taken to court alongside Nairobi County by 7 Kilimani residents for noise pollution contrary to Noise and Excessive Vibration Pollution Regulations. The establishment apparently plays unbearably loud music keeping those that live nearby awake all night.

The Kilimani Project Foundation, a residents association, welcomed the judgement and its Chairperson Irũngũ Houghton added that “This judgement is a step in the right direction for the return of order to residential areas in Nairobi. While the Foundation is not against commercial and industrial development, there has to be clearly zoned areas. Attempts to negotiate between The Space Lounge and the 100 neighbours by the MCA Hon Moses Ogeto and Foundation came to a halt after the Space ignored their neighbours’ complaints. This made this suit inevitable.”
