Lorna Irungu-Macharia has been chosen alongside other 21 people as a 2016 Eisenhower International Fellow. The 22 professionals will travel to the US for seven weeks, visiting different cities and meeting top professionals in their field. They will also identify specific projects they will undertake upon returning home.

Eisenhower Fellows

Lorna is the managing partner of Siwa Communications which provides communications services to organizations with social impact missions. She is also an activist who has built awareness around gender-based violence, promoted women’s voices in politics and encouraged voter participation. She is dedicated to advancing transplant advocacy having had three kidney transplants. She has a degree in communication from Daystar University. She has previously worked as radio host for Nation FM, entertainment manager for the Carnivore, presenter for Club Kiboko in the 90’s and producer at KTN.

In her fellowship, Irungu-Macharia will study how the media can influence societal change. She will seek to strengthen social movements so that they have critical impact on women’s leadership in Kenya.

Eisenhower Fellowships is a private non-profit organization that was created in 1953 to honour former US President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The organization identifies and empowers innovative leaders. Since it was formed, nearly 2,000 men and women have been awarded fellowships.
