Airtel Kenya in a bid to change its fortunes in the Kenyan market has embarked on strategic restructuring. This is meant to reposition the business and reinforce its competitiveness in the Kenyan market.

The exercise which is focused on aligning the company’s structure with its operating model, has however claimed its first victims with 60 members of staff being let go. Airtel is however sensitive towards the affected staff and is committed to minimizing the impact of the exercise on employees. As such the telco will be compensating the employees above what is prescribed in the prevailing laws. It has also contracted a reputable organization to offer job search services and provide the training they would need to find new opportunities.

The telco has also moved to allay fears of an exit by stating that it remains committed to the Kenyan market with significant investments of over Kshs. 20 billion to drive innovation, network quality and customer service delivery over the next two years.
