Levi Nyakundi is the new Airtel Kenya Marketing Director. The position fell vacant after the previous holder, Charles Wanjohi, was poached by rival Safaricom to become the head of Consumer Segment.

Levi was most recently the marketing director at Airtel Tanzania and at Airtel Uganda before that. Levi started off his career as a management trainee at Unilever Kenya rising to Brand Manager and thereafter Trade Marketing Manager before moving up to the position of marketing operations manager at Unilever Uganda. Levi boasts of regional experience in both FMCG and Telecom and is credited for having grown Unilever’s portfolio in Uganda and enabling phenomenal growth of Airtel Money in Tanzania. Levi holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Marketing from the University of Nairobi and an Advanced Management Program (AMP) Certificate from Strathmore University.

Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi had this to say about Levi’s appointment “We are absolutely delighted to have Levi in our management team. His previous experience within the telecommunications industry means that he has a holistic view of the market, from strategy formulation to execution that will allow Airtel to develop and deliver its strategic marketing objectives quickly and efficiently in our fast and competitive sector in Kenya.”

Levi has big shoes to fill as his predecessor enjoyed quite a bit of success in the same position especially with the wildly popular Unliminet product.
