Infinix Alpha Marvel

The Infinix Alpha Marvel (X502) is a sleek, 6.98mm thin smartphone whose svelte build and striking appearance give it an air of luxury. It has a 5 inch HD touch screen that’s shiny black with no buttons while the back has a matte finish that enables a firm grip. Designed by Infinix in France, the Alpha Marvel is a top-notch mid-range device that embodies class, superior quality and value for money. Since the Infinix Brand name is only inscribed on the back, folks often can’t fight the urge to ask about this swanky smartphone that so gracefully announces its presence. The Alpha Marvel (X502) is a marvel at the very least and Infinix sure did a good job naming it that.

I have had the Infinix Alpha Marvel for almost 3 months now and I can easily say that I love it a little more each day. It’s like all those months of reading reviews and visiting phone shops to compare specifications and prices were leading up to it.

I wanted a great phone camera but most phones within my budget had a mere 5mp or 8mp. I know megapixels aren’t everything but I can say for sure that the X502’s 13mp rear camera certainly captures details as I would like them captured. Photos are of great quality and there are numerous options to edit photos and give them the edge you want. The flash is especially useful in low light and here’s a sample:

A good front camera has become increasingly important in this age of selfies and considering that many high end phones have at most 2mp front cameras, the X502’s 5mp front camera ranks very highly. It will make you enjoy taking selfies even the more. Video quality is spectacular and even though the HD videos take up a lot of space, no one’s complaining.

The Alpha Marvel runs on Android 4.2.1 (JellyBean) but several functionalities are specialized so users get more than just the usual Android experience. There are also 3 theme styles you can pick from- Classic, Stylish and Luxury- that come with different wallpapers and determine the appearance of your screens and icons. Unlike on most smartphones where applications are accessed through the menu/apps icon, the Alpha Marvel has all apps on various screens so they are very easily accessible without jamming the Home-screen.

The Alpha Marvel comes with a good number of preloaded apps like other phones and you can access more from the Android PlayStore or the Palmplay. With 16 GB of internal memory, there’s enough space to download almost as many apps as you need. There’s no SD card slot but that hasn’t been a problem so far. In any case, you can access a variety of other external storage drives if you need more space.

I particularly enjoy reading on my phone thanks to the 5 inch IPS screen. Colours are bright enough and visibility is excellent outdoors on Auto mode. The screen is not made from Gorilla Glass like some competitors’ but you get a free screen protector and grey flap cover at purchase and they’ve protected my phone on a couple of falls thus far. The Alpha Marvel is still incredibly slim with the flap cover on so I use it, and it works well as a stand when I watch videos. 1 GB of RAM and the Quad Core 1.5 GHZ Processor gets the job done so you will not have to worry about the phone lagging or loading apps slowly.

Gaming on the Alpha Marvel is splendid and seamless even for HD games so you enjoy and eventually get addicted to many games. Understandably, gaming drains charge but it is not to worrying levels and on the flipside, this phone will help you acquire and grow in virtues such as self control and discipline. We all want that, right? :-).

I have no qualms regarding the 2500mAh non-removable battery- for a smartphone it lasts pretty long although most times I skip a day. The charger also charges remarkably fast. The Alpha Marvel uses a normal sized Simcard which is placed on a sim-tray ejected using a pin and inserted on right. The power button is on the left, right below the volume button, which is different from the cliché right or top on most phones. I also think it would serve left handed people really well.

The X502 also comes with a Carlcare app since Infinix devices are serviced by Carlcare and it is covered by warranty for 365 days. You will hardly get any phones that are this amazing for less than 30,000 Kenya shillings and the Infinix Alpha Marvel X502 is most definitely a good deal. As a bonus, mine came with this branded tumbler that I haven’t quite used but adds to that value for money point, no? 🙂

The Infinix Alpha Marvel is available from Safaricom Shops and Bright Technologies for Ksh. 30,000.
