Interactive concepts have for the fourth year running released a report that highlights how companies listed on the NSE in Kenya are using social media tools. This is done in a bid to reach new audiences, encourage conversations around their services and products, as well as managing customer services.

The report reviews different social media strategies applied and identified companies that are taking the lead in setting the agenda of conversations around their brands.

Speaking at the launch, Japie Swanepoel, Founder of Interactive Concepts described how the social media space in Kenya is no longer the preserve of individuals. He analysed the growing trend of local brands embracing these new platforms.

The 2014 report revealed that 68% of the companies analysed are on Facebook, 57% are on twitter, 43% on Google+ and only 15% have dedicated blogs. Every company was analysed based on set digital metrics to measure impact which include online presence, mentions. Followers conversations and dialogue. It compiled trends in usage across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Google+ as well as any blog the corporate might run.

According to Japie, only 15% of the companies surveyed have blogs. It shows a disconnect between the brands and the customers. It might also be due to a lack of understanding resources or content plan.

He stresses that social media is one powerful tool and it’s great to see companies not ignoring it and what it can do for their companies.
