Safaricom’s consumer promotion, Shangwe @25, has announced five new winners who have each joined the millionaire club. The latest winners brings the total number of millionaires in the campaign to 10 since its launch last month.

The five newly minted millionaires are Hannah Ngige (Nairobi), Wellington Juma (Kisumu), Taala Chelanga (Elgeyo Marakwet), Elizabeth Wairimu (Thika), and Sheila Cheptoo (Bomet). Each winner was also awarded an additional Ksh 250,000 to fund a community project of their choice.

Hannah Ngige, a 56-year-old second-hand seller from Komarock, Nairobi, plans to invest in her business and start the tomato farming she has always dreamed of. Her community contribution will support the maternity wing at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital by providing beddings.

In Kisumu, Wellington Juma, a 39-year-old Clinical Officer, intends to use the funds to complete his house construction and equip his small clinic, dedicating his community prize to a widows’ group in Ahero.

Similarly, Sheila Cheptoo, a 25-year-old poultry farmer from Bomet, plans to expand her poultry business and support her siblings’ school fees, while Kitoben Primary Children’s Home will receive beddings and food from her community fund.

Other winners included shopkeeper Elizabeth Wairimu from Thika, who will expand her kiosk and provide textbooks to Twiga Primary School in Juja, and Taala Chelanga from Elgeyo Marakwet, who plans to buy land and build a home for her family.

Beyond individual consumers, the Shangwe @25 promotion has also focused on empowering the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector. Eight registered small businesses that use Lipa Na M-PESA options—including Buy Goods and Pochi la Biashara—also won big.

  • Four businesses (including Sakifarm Limited- Nairobi and Millys The Redbeet Fresh Mart- Voi) won brand-new Bajaj tricycles to aid in moving goods.
  • Four others (including EBEE Mobility Kenya Limited- Homabay and Justus Kiprono Koros Hardware in Kericho) won business stocks worth Ksh. 250,000 each.

Furthermore, three large and medium enterprises, Moringa School, the European Union, and the United Nations Federal Credit Union, each received Ksh 500,000 to bolster their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) kitties.

Since its launch, the promotion has rewarded thousands of customers daily and weekly with cash, data bundles, devices, and business support tools. Over 50,000 winners are rewarded weekly, and the total prize pool is set at an impressive Ksh. 250 million.

Customers can participate by simply transacting on M-PESA, sending money, paying with M-PESA, redeeming Bonga Points, or purchasing Safaricom products like bundles and Home Fibre. Merchants and M-PESA agents also qualify.
