Africa Magic in association with MultiChoice have announced that the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) will be held on May 14, 2022, in Lagos. The eighth edition of the awards will be hosted by Nigerian media personality, IK Osakioduwa and South Africa’s media personality, Bonang Matheba.

For the eighth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), organizers announced a special eight-day series of events, starting with an Opening Night on Saturday, 7 May. This will be followed by a first-ever AMVCA runway show on Sunday, 8 May. On Monday, 9 May will be Young Filmmakers’ Day with movie screenings and panel discussions by students of the MultiChoice Talent Factory academy.

Africa Magic will host industry stakeholders to a special Content Market Workshop on Tuesday, 10 May and an African food festival and cultural day on Wednesday, 11 May. A Digital Content Creators’ brunch, to spotlight the growing popularity of online content creators, will be held on Thursday, 12 May followed by a special gala for nominees on Friday, 13 May.

The awards gala night will be on Saturday, 14 May and aired live on Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv from 4pm WAT.

Kenyan nominees in the 2022 AMVCA include:

  • Kenyan film movie Just In Time that features Sarah Hassan, Kagwe Mungai, Pierra Makena, Stycie Waweru, Eve S’Souza and Blessing Lungaho received 6 nominations.
  • Sarah Hassan has been nominated in the Best Actress in Comedy (Movie/TV Series) category for her role in Justice In Time.
  • Mumbi Maina has been nominated in the Best Supporting actress category for a role in  La Femme Anjola.
  • Eugene Mbugua has been nominated in the Best Documentary category for the docu This Love that features Nameless and his wife Wahu.
