The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced 418,000 temporary positions ahead of the August 9, 2022 general election in Kenya. The deadline for application is Thursday, May 5, 2022.

The IEBC intends to hire around 418,000 election officials for the following temporary positions.

  • Deputy County Returning Officers – 47
  • Deputy Constituency Returning Officers – 290
  • Presiding Officers – 52,481
  • Deputy Presiding Officers – 52,481
  • Logistics Officers – 389
  • Support Electoral Trainers – 5,827
  • ICT Clerks – 580
  • Polling Clerks/ Counting Clerks – 302,860
  • County-Based Voter Educators – 47
  • Constituency-Based Voter Educators – 290
  • Ward-Based Voter Educators – 2,900

The minimum requirements for applying for the IEBC election vacancies listed above are as follows;

  • You must be a Kenya citizen
  • You must provide your National ID
  • ICT clerks must have prior experience working in ICT
  • The application must be submitted online.

To apply, you should do the following;

  • Access the IEBC recruitment portal, click on jobs.iebc.or.ke.
  • Choose a job title or role that interests you.
  • Fill in your educational, professional, and personal qualifications.
  • Fill in your relevant work experience.
  • From the drop-down menu, select your home county, constituency, or district, as well as the location as shown on your National ID.
  • Select the county in which you want to work.
  • Then click the ‘Apply Now’ button to make your application.

IEBC remuneration for the positions advertised are as follows:

  • County returning officers will be paid Ksh. 4,000 per day while their deputies will be paid Ksh. 3,000.
  • Presiding officers will be paid Ksh. 2,000 per day, with their deputies receiving Ksh. 1,800 per day.
  • Logistics officers will be paid Ksh1,500 per day.
  • Support electoral trainers will be paid Ksh. 2,000 per day.
  • ICT clerks will be paid Ksh. 1,500 per day.
  • Polling clerks and counting clerks will be paid Ksh1,000 per day.
  • County-based voter educators will be paid Ksh. 2,000 per day
  • Constituency based voter educators Ksh.1,500 per day
  • Ward-based voter educators Ksh.1,000 per day.
