Dukkapu; the newest online supermarket in Kenya with affordable prices

Shares
Dukkapu is an eCommerce platform that sells household goods and models itself as an online supermarket. It was founded in June 2018 by Patrick Muteti and started operations in August 2018.

Unlike Jumia or Sky Garden, Dukkapu source the goods that it lists on its platform directly from distributors and manufacturers and then sells directly to customers. According to the company, they are able to maintain quality standards and ensure that consumers get only the best products. They give priority to small producers who manufacture their products locally. Some of these producers include Bee Happy and Yo’s Kitchen. Another reason is that they want to deliver the products bought as one package, and in the shortest time possible, as opposed to say when you have to deliver products from different merchants on the site which may take time.

Dukkapu’s prices are lower than traditional supermarkets and additionally they offer quantity discounts on selected products. Additionally, the platform has daily deals where certain products such as diapers, toiletries, and grains are discounted.

Products that are available on the platform include foodstuff, meats & poultry, toiletries, baby care products, detergents, hair and beauty products, personal care products, alcohol and beverages. Popular brands on the platform include Arimis, Kericho Gold, Huggies, Velvex, Hannan, Nivea deodorants and lotion, Sunrice rice, Santa Lucia spaghetti, Coca-Cola sodas, Tropical heat spices, ChainKwo soy sauce, Vaseline, Nutrameal sugar, red beans, ndengu and lentils.

The platform plans to list products that are not available in normal supermarkets. These include whole grain mill flours (maize, sorghum and millet), direct factory tea, coffee beans, local rice, and packaged mixed vegetables.

Dukkapu also provides delivery services to its customers, with the platform promising a delivery time of up-to 24 hours in Nairobi. They also deliver to outside of Nairobi within 48 hours and shipped goods to locations such as Kisii, Thika, Mombasa, and Mbita. Interestingly, they also ship globally and they have customers in the UK, US, and Germany.

To sign up on the platform, you need a phone number, email address and physical location. Payments on the platform include M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Tkash, and Debit/Credit cards. Register here to use the platform dukkapu.com/register.
