The natural hair movement is great. It stands for being comfortable in your own skin and appreciating the uniqueness of our hair textures. The movement falls short of being inclusive though, since we rarely get to see kinkier and tighter curls being celebrated the way looser curls and softer hair is.
I decided to go on Instagram and find some 4C, kinky, coily haired naturals that you can follow for some hair inspiration. For those not in the know 4C hair type is hair that has a tight curl pattern and tends to be more coarse and denser than other hair types. Most African women have this hair type. Here they are;
1. mugsgitau – Mugs Gitau
On her bio, she describes herself as a nappy head and her feed backs this up. She posts pictures of her simple DIY hairstyles which is my favourite thing about her page. I wear my hair much shorter than I used to, but I know how hard styling 4C hair can be so the easier the hairdo the better.
2. nywele_natural – Nywele Natural
The bio on the account says that the page is about two naturals, one dread locked and one who isn’t and their natural hair journey. Though I didn’t see many pictures of the dread locked natural, this page is worth following. I like this account because when they share pictures of their hairstyles, it’s comforting to know that I am not the only one who can’t make precise partitions in my hair or braid neat cornrows. I’m sure there are other naturals like me too.
The page also features pictures of other naturals whom they meet on the street and on their travels.
3. nywelechronicles- Natural Hair Chronicles
Her bio simply says that she has 4C hair. I don’t know about you, but that’s all I need to know in order to hit follow. Her mane looks absolutely gorgeous and she posts weekly videos on YouTube chronicling her hair journey.
4. bantu_kinks – Tin Wanjala
Hair must grow! And I agree with her bio 100%. There is no way you can be spending entire weekends washing and pampering your hair for it to stagnate on you yawa.
Tin shares pictures of her simple DIY hairstyles and they always turn out great. It’s encouraging to see such beautiful hair worn and celebrated in its natural state.
5. justmargie_ – Margie Muga
According to her bio, her hair is a mix of 4b/c. This just goes to show how wonderful African hair is because it cannot be boxed into just one texture. You can have mix of hair types on one head. How cool is that?
She shares gorgeous pictures of her hair and you need to check out her page and see more of it for yourself.
6. kurlykichana – Kurly Kichana
Her IG page is like the Pinterest board I have always wanted but I’m too lazy to make. She regularly posts about her the products she uses in her regimen and gives tips on how to maintain natural hair. She loves being in braids, which is what I like about her because wearing your afro out sometimes is too much work.
7. cravingyellow – Tabitha
Her long natural hair is goals. You can spend a good amount of time scrolling through her page; admiring her hair.
8. sheilandinda – Ndinda
This was one of the first 4c hair naturals I followed when i decided to go go natural. She’s still my go-to natural hair blogger. Her tips on hair maintenance and styling are always super helpful.
9. mykenyanpuff – Sharon
Her hair looks amazing and you need to check her out. I love how healthy her hair looks. She posts tips on her hair secrets on her page and shares them on her YouTube videos as well.
10. wangechi_ngare – Wangechi Ngare
She describes herself as the hair doctor. It’s easy to see why. From her page, she seems to have natural hair styling down to a science. You can also hit her up for hair advice.

11. napspiration – Victoria
Victoria has a mane to die to for. She regularly updates her page, sharing the methods she uses to maintain such long and healthy hair.
12. fuschia_kurls – Shiro
Her page is a mix of posts of her in pictures as she goes about her day’s activities. But you’ll definitely see snippets of her natural hair and her DIY recipies on how he conditions it.
13. tindikamwetu – Tindi Kamwetu
She is the mother of DIYs. Her page has some really cool hair conditioning and detangling recipies that you can make with the ingredients in your kitchen. She also has beautiful hair.
