Q&A Monday: Mandi Sarro

Mandi Sarro aka Miss Mandi is a media personality and a curator that loves to tell visual stories. She is also a self taught home cook who shares her recipes on Social Media and on her blog mandisarro.com under the moniker “Miss Mandi Throwdown”.

We had a few questions for her and this is what she had to say.

1. Your first phone?

I’d be lying if I say I remember the model. I think it was a nokia.

2. Between Facebook and Twitter, which one do you prefer? Why?

Definitely Twitter. I feel as if Facebook has way too many closed minded people and people who know your folks or family. So anything personal you share there travels quickly.

3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Owning one helluva brand. Sadly, I am not trying to share my dreams especially on the internets anymore. I believe in beyonces theory of just working hard and letting the work (success) do the noise.

Since you are part of BAKE, will you be adding new categories? i.e a vlogging or youtube category?

Yes. We are considering adding it next year.

5. What would you do if you were president for a day?

A day? That’s not even enough time to attempt to fix ANYTHING in this Kenya that we live in.

6. What’s your favourite book & movie?

This one is tricky so I’ll answer this based on the last book I read and the last favorite movie I watched. Americanah & Love Jones.

7. Who or what inspired what you do now?

There has been an influx of people who are taking to the Internet to showcase their talent and those are the people who inspire me. Especially the people I grew up with to the people I have made friendships with ever since moving back to Kenya.

8. If you were to change jobs, what profession would you get into? Why?

An MCA maybe? It’s not a profession per se bu I am tired of not getting what our taxes pay for. Frustrated to say the least. But for real, I’d probably want to be behind the lens: photographer or filmmaker.

9. If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Teleporting? Sometimes you just need to escape all the bull****.

10. Which 5 things would you want to have if you were deserted on an abandoned island?

I’d really want:

coconut oil
a good book
bae
a beach house
a plane (for when you have to get back to reality)

11. If you were a car, which one would you like to be? Why?

The car that consumes the least amount of fuel. LOL! OR a g-wagon!

12. If you could be in any band in the world, which one would you like to be in? Why?

In Beyonce’s band. I love how she works and I would love to be in the presence of the greatness she creates.

13. What’s the most challenging thing you’ve faced while working in radio?

When the system crashes and you’re told to keep talking as they try to fix things. That can be challenging because sometimes you just don’t know what else to add onto the banter. Lol.
