The blogging wave is in full swing in the Kenyan online space with new blogs coming up right, left and centre. With all these platforms now available it is increasingly becoming difficult to find the right blogs to read. Of course, this all depends on your taste and preferences but above all thing quality and consistency of content is vital. You want to read things that will teach you something or at least give you value for your time. Here’s a look at some of the new blogs you should be reading.

1. Afromum

On the about us page the site describes itself as “a blog that focuses on products and services consumed and targeted at families” but do not expect an online version of Parent’s magazine. Afromum covers a wide range of topics, from entertainment to child education, which is not only appropriate for families but a wide audience of different demographics.

The editorial team is made up of Njeri Wanjohi and Olivia Kidula.

2. The Agora

To start with, this blog has one of the best designs I have seen on a Kenyan blog. The Agora covers mainly history/ arts and culture. You can read more about the history of Mombasa, Kalasinga, Tusker etc. If you’re a history buff, and Kenyan history in particular, this is one of the many stops you should be making on your journey to days past.

Fashion blogs are coming up every day like the sun in the morning the aim is to make one unique and interesting. Style Sketches is one of the few blogs striving for this. From product reviews to fashion and health, the blog goes the whole nine yard and is definitely one of the blogs you should visit if fashion is part of your interests.

Kaluhi’s Kitchen is run by Kaluhi Adagala who loves to cook and experiment with food and shares her experiences on the blog. Kaluhi’s Kitchen is a Kenyan food blog, for the everyday Kenyan. 6. Siri Zetu

When I first landed on the blog I was taken aback. “Siri Zetu” directly translates to our secrets. The blog certainly doesn’t shy away from conversations that people avoid in public forums like sex education and erotica.

7. Macho Moran

Macho Moran is the only male focused blog in Kenya. The blog covers issues ranging from male shopping, spiritual matters, money, health and dating. Imagine reading an article like “Quick things every man should do when friendzoned”.

8. Kiketele

Kiketele’s aim is to spark constructive conversations and inspire positive change while telling stories by and for African women. The site has a diverse range of content from profiles of distinguished women to discussions on current affairs such as Dead Beat Kenya. Not only are they active online but offline as well via a series of projects such as the recent staged play “They Say/ I am” at the Michael Joseph Centre.
