Pete’s Café and Burrito Haven is a swanky restaurant located at Bishop Magua Centre, Opposite Uchumi Hyper on Nairobi’s Ngong Road. It’s a Burrito Haven if you ask me, and the scrumptious Mexican dishes served in a dainty, serene atmosphere only prove me right. The Burritos and Quesadillas are wholesome meals, healthy and delicious to a fault. Four floors up, you’ll find Pete’s Coffee at iHub, a sister establishment that has over the years quenched techies, bloggers and business people alike.

It’s sweltering outside on the day I dine at Pete’s so I chose a table by the shade at the lounge up the stairs. My host joins me with his plate of Rice and Beef Stew which I bet is as pleasing to the taste buds as it is to the eyes. The food is fresh and the servings are plentiful so you are sure to get great value for your money.

A glass of Lemonade complements my Beef Quesadilla very well and it is a perfect drink on a hot afternoon. Each bite of the Quesadilla is heavenly and the grilled beef, tomatoes and spice will delight your taste buds and leave you sated. If you have a sweet tooth like I do, you may want to sweeten your Lemonade but overall, this is a meal I would have again. The Mexican dishes go for between 350 and 450 Kenya shillings while the drinks will cost you anything between 100 and 300 shillings.

You can go for bean, beef or chicken varieties for Burritos or Quesadillas though there are veggie and cheese options for the latter. The menu also includes French Fries and Burgers, stir fried beef or chicken and a wide variety of juices, teas and coffees. The King’s Breakfast deserves a special mention as it includes a beverage, Butter Milk pancakes, bacon, eggs, and sausages amongst other breakfast options. You will not get Butter Milk Pancakes anywhere else in Nairobi and if you have the King’s Breakfast for brunch, you will be satiated all through the day.

“Burritos on Wheels” comes up in our conversation as my host explains the brilliantly crafted bicycle that lightly leans against the glass windows on the lounge up the stairs. The Café makes deliveries to businesses around and one can make orders through a ‘My Order’ app and pay via Mpesa or on delivery. The Café also provides Coffee for events as well as Catering for menu items or other meals. I gather that artists can display their art for sale from the art pieces on other walls, and that the lounge can be hired out for cocktails, product launches or other events.

Pete’s Café has an open kitchen design so you can watch your order being prepared if you like and little else will disturb your peace besides the sound of cutlery. The Café is also great place to work or meet clients and there’re sockets to charge devices as well as free Wi-Fi. If the expertise behind the brand is anything to go by, Pete was the 2004 Barista Champion so you can be sure to get quality coffee, food and service.
